Saint Joseph, Pillar of Families

I didn't use to pray novenas.  I always thought that praying directly to God was better.  But I read this passage from the Bible: "The continual prayer of a just man availeth much." - James 5:16 I thought of the matter more and now I see that novenas are a humble way of praying.  It is asking those closest to Jesus (and holiest) people who walked the earth, to pray for me. This is not a new way of doing things as Moses intervened for the Jews when God wanted to punish them for making a bull with their own hands and started worshipping them. I now think God is pleased whenever I pray a novena.    Since then, I have seen so many SIGNS AND WONDERS in myself and in my circumstances because I prayed a novena.   I credit Saint Joseph for my happy home life and also for helping us with our finances though the best thing for me is the way novenas help us to lead holy lives.  The saints want no applause but rather, they will always draw us closer to God.   Instead of idolizing cel

The Woman I Want to Be

March is the month for women (also crafts, but that's another post!).

When I was little, ... this little....

... I used to draw women.  Loads and loads of women.  Women are easier to draw then men.

I had this big ledger type notebook that someone threw away (with all these accounting figures) and I would draw 1 woman per page.  Underneath each woman would be a description of her personality and occupation.  I was trying to find that notebook but was unable to unearth it.

Some things never change and today I still like drawing women.  Though I am one myself, I like imagining women whose lives are way different than mine (though I love my life just the same) as each life is similar to a book that the Author of Life has written.  It's all the more mysterious to think about who this woman might be and what makes her who she is.

Today's ideal woman is far from mine.  She may be bejeweled, rich and powerful but I prefer the woman with the noble character worth far more than rubies.

She is someone with whom people have full confidence in.  She brings them good all the days of her life.

She may not have silky, manicured hands but her hands do arts and crafts well (of course!)

She may not be a gourmet chef but she travels great lengths just to get you your favorite dish.

She may not have flawless complexion because of sufficient beauty sleep but she gets up while it is still dark so she can serve everyone from the least to the greatest and her lamp doesn't go out at night to keep a close eye on her business.

She may not have grown up with a silver spoon but she saves her earnings, multiples it and her whole family prospers.

She may not have an impossibly non-existent waist but her arms are strong for her tasks, working vigorously.

She may not be arm in arm with celebrities on the red carpet or in the society pages but she opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy.

She may not have the latest fashions but she and her family are well clothed in times of scarcity.  She is clothed in fine linen and purple.

She is clothed with strength and dignity; and she can laugh at the days to come.  She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction in on her tongue... Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.  Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
(from Proverbs 31)

  1. LOVE your woman drawings!

I have always drawn or doodled women...I just love the female body -it's so beautiful. I try to do men sometimes, but they just look like women.

I've always had a thing with drawing women in dresses - if I knew something about sewing and design - i think I could create really good dresses...

anyways - really enjoyed looking at your drawings.

Now following you from Friendship Friend with Create with Joy.

  2. Yes...this is the kind of woman I long to be, too. A true Proverbs 31 woman. The kind of woman my loving creator created me to be...

Absolutely beautiful....in both picture and word. Thank you for using your gifts to draw us closer to God. Thank you, too, for joining me at "Heartprints of God". It's a pleasure to meet you here.

  3. Very insightful post Christina. When I was a kid, I also have my own model of a perfect woman. However, I was blinded with the idea of physical attributes. As I grow up, I realized that having a good heart best defines the woman I wanted to be :)
