The Woman I Want to Be

March is the month for women (also crafts, but that's another post!).

When I was little, ... this little....

... I used to draw women.  Loads and loads of women.  Women are easier to draw then men.

I had this big ledger type notebook that someone threw away (with all these accounting figures) and I would draw 1 woman per page.  Underneath each woman would be a description of her personality and occupation.  I was trying to find that notebook but was unable to unearth it.

Some things never change and today I still like drawing women.  Though I am one myself, I like imagining women whose lives are way different than mine (though I love my life just the same) as each life is similar to a book that the Author of Life has written.  It's all the more mysterious to think about who this woman might be and what makes her who she is.

Today's ideal woman is far from mine.  She may be bejeweled, rich and powerful but I prefer the woman with the noble character worth far more than rubies.

She is someone with whom people have full confidence in.  She brings them good all the days of her life.

She may not have silky, manicured hands but her hands do arts and crafts well (of course!)

She may not be a gourmet chef but she travels great lengths just to get you your favorite dish.

She may not have flawless complexion because of sufficient beauty sleep but she gets up while it is still dark so she can serve everyone from the least to the greatest and her lamp doesn't go out at night to keep a close eye on her business.

She may not have grown up with a silver spoon but she saves her earnings, multiples it and her whole family prospers.

She may not have an impossibly non-existent waist but her arms are strong for her tasks, working vigorously.

She may not be arm in arm with celebrities on the red carpet or in the society pages but she opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy.

She may not have the latest fashions but she and her family are well clothed in times of scarcity.  She is clothed in fine linen and purple.

She is clothed with strength and dignity; and she can laugh at the days to come.  She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction in on her tongue... Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.  Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
(from Proverbs 31)

What kind of woman do you want to be?

Look Hoot Flew In

A wonderful surprise flew in the other day.  It was my prize from the UK which took a long time getting here.  It's Mr.Wonderful Owl!  Thank you so much Jehenisus for this generous prize!   I'm forever grateful!  Do visit her blog for more delightful thoughts and things.

I hastily introduced Mr. Owl to my hatless Swarovski snowman from ages past.  They got on very well together as you can see!

Here's a picture of the owl's bottom (sorry Mr. Owl) since I couldn't get over the nice crystal effect.

Even before he arrived in the mail, I've been sketching owls upon owls.  These feathered friends remind me about seeking wisdom in this life.

If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. - James 1:5

Here are some of my digitally drawn ones.

For the foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man's strength.

All these owls remind me that it is the month many of you are graduating!  Congratulations all!  Don't forget to celebrate it with gusto!

At work, my brother made a nice owl bank that's been doing pretty well in the shops.  Isn't he just adorable?  More details about it can be found here.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise. - Psalm 111:10
