There once was a princess born to the king of Burgundy, France in the 5th century. Her name was Clotilde which meant "Famous in Battle". She married young to King Clovis who did not share her Christian faith.
Being a devout believer in God, Clotilde prayed constantly for his conversion. Her desire was granted in the year 496 when Clovis turned to prayer on the eve of his battle against Germanic tribes. He made a vow to be baptized if he was given victory. When indeed they emerged triumphant, Clovis was baptized by Bishop Remigius of Reims.
Together, Clotilde and Clovis built the Church of the Holy Apostles in Paris.
In the year 511, Clovis passed away. Sadly after that, Clotilde's 3 sons fought over the kingdom for many years. She instead dedicated her life to serving the poor and infirm.
Saint Clotilde's pious way of life converted many souls to Christianity. In fact, she is credited with spreading the faith in Western Europe.
She is the patron of brides, adopted children, people in exile, parents of large families, widows, and queens. She is also asked for prayers against the death of children and in cases of disappointing children.
Today, June 3rd is her feast day. Saint Clotilde, pray for us!
